Abhishek Sharma’s night went from good to wow, with the left-hander smashing a 37-ball century against a strong England bowling unit in the fifth T20I on February 2 at the Wankhede Stadium. The left-hander smacked his fifty off just 17 balls before requiring 20 balls to get to his second-fastest T20I century for India.
33 balls - Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe) vs Gambia, Nairobi, 2024
35 balls - Rohit Sharma (India) vs Sri Lanka, Indore, 2017
35 balls - David Miller (South Africa) vs Bangladesh, Potchefstroom, 2017
37 balls - Abhishek Sharma (India) vs England, Mumbai, 2025*
39 balls - Johnson Charles (West Indies) vs South Africa, Centurion, 2023
40 balls - Sanju Samson (India) vs Bangladesh, Hyderabad, 2024
The left-hander had a great chance to break Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball efforts, but Brydon Carse managed to keep him quiet before Abhishek got to his landmark two balls later, becoming the fourth-fastest centurion in the shortest format, only behind Sikandar Raza (ZIM), Rohit and David Miller (SA).
At the time of writing this, Abhishek is on 107 off 43 balls, smashing six fours and 10 sixes, breaking one record at a time.
