Adil Rashid bowled the ball of the series as he removed Tilak Varma during the third T20I on January 28 (Tuesday) at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. This was the first time Tilak was dismissed in this five-match series and the first time in five innings.
Rashid bowled a ripper of a leg break that pitched outside off for the left-handed batter, turned sharply and then hit the middle stump crushing through the defenses of the 22-year-old. The ball was bowled at 82.7 kmph, way slower than his usual balls to deceive the batter.
But before getting out, Tilak managed to get 336 runs. This is the most by any batter between dismissals in the history of T20 internationals.
Most runs between dismissals in T20Is
336 - Tilak Varma (2 T20Is vs SA, 2024 & 3 T20Is vs ENG, 2025)
271 - Mark Chapman (4 T20Is vs PAK & 1 T20 vs UAE, 2023)
240 - Shreyas Iyer (3 T20Is vs SL & 1 T20I vs SA, 2022)
240 - Aaron Finch (1 T20I vs ZIM & 1 T20I vs PAK, 2018)
Rashid, who had taken two wickets in the series but hadn’t quite had an impact, was at his lethal best, going for just 15 runs and picking the all-important wicket of Varma, the hero for India from the previous match.
However, Rashid bowled several deliveries that easily beat the batters but were just too good enough to either miss the stumps on an LBW call or the edge of the bat for a caught behind.
The 36-year-old became the first bowler to maintain an economy of less than four in four over spells in back-to-back games against India
