The last 24 hours have been contrasting for the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), which went from celebration to sombreness because of a floodlight failure during the second ODI between India and England.
The match was halted for almost 30 minutes, which was disappointing for both BCCI and OCA. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill walked back frustrated after the pair had already got India off to a racing start. In the aftermath of that incident, the OCA was issued a show-cause notice.
"The Odisha Cricket Association is hereby directed to submit a detailed explanation for the cause of the disruption and identify the persons/agencies who were responsible for such lapses and outline the measures taken to prevent similar incidents in the future," a notice sent by Siddhartha Das, the director of sports, government of Odisha, said, reported Cricbuzz.
"The findings must be submitted within 10 days upon receipt of this letter," the notice says and goes on to add, "This incident led to a 30-minute suspension of the match, causing inconvenience to players and spectators."
"My mail is self-explanatory. We have asked the OCA to explain what caused the breakdown and what action they are going to take," Das, an IAS officer, who heads the Sports and Youth Services Department of the State Government, told Cricbuzz about the mail he has sent to the association.
OCA has hosted 25 international fixtures, including 20 ODIs, three T20Is, and two Tests. However, the latest ODI was quite embarrassing for the association. Eventually, India won the second ODI and sealed the series comfortably with a four-wicket win.
