After the opening match loss against New Zealand, where Richa Ghosh dropped a sitter, a lot of focus was on her abilities behind the stumps. But in the second game on October 6 (Sunday) against arch-rivals Pakistan, Ghosh put forward her ‘best foot’ with a catch for a lifetime.
While India definitely put Pakistan on the mat, a lot of focus and eyeballs was on their fielding display. Asha Sobhana wasn’t a culprit on one occasion but two when she dropped Muneeba Ali and then, later, Fatima Sana. Both were quite straightforward catches, which even led to the coach Amol Muzumdar ‘almost’ hiding his face in shame.
But that’s when Ghosh stood out and showed the world that all the hard yards put in at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru came to fruition. Sana was on an attacking spree, with consecutive boundaries against the leggie Sobhana.
When she was trying to attack the third ball, the Pakistan skipper could only get an edge. It was flying past the Indian wicketkeeper Ghosh before she pulled off a stunner. Her reaction was such that it left Harmanpreet Kaur stunned, as the rest of the Indian side jumped in joy while running towards her.
Later, during the TV commentary, it was revealed that Ghosh took only 0.44 seconds of reaction time before pulling off that blinder. It was an important wicket as Sana had scored 13 off just eight deliveries.
