India, the four time champions, announced their squad for the 2022 U19 World Cup, to be hosted in West Indies January 14 onwards. In the squad announced by the All-India Junior Selection Committee, BCCI have named a 17-player squad. Delhi's Yash Dhull will lead the side and Andhra's SK Rasheed will be his deputy.
In addition, Rishit Reddy (Hyderabad), Uday Saharan (Punjab), Ansh Gosai (Saurashtra), Amrit Raj Upadhyay (Bengal) and PM Singh Rathore (Rajasthan) will travel as stand-by players.
The 2022 edition will be the 14th edition of the tournament. India is the most successful team in the history of U19 World Cups, winning the trophy four times - in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018. They have been the runners-up on three other occasions - 2006, 2016 and 2020. They lost to Bangladesh in the final in South Africa in 2020.
The tournament will have 16 teams contesting for the silverware across 48 50-over games. The final is scheduled to be played on February 5, 2022.
India will kick-off their campaign on January 15, facing South Africa at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Ireland and Uganda are the other two teams placed in their group - Group B.
The top two teams from each of the four groups will proceed to the Super League knockouts. The eliminated teams will play the Plate knockouts.
