Without Jasprit Bumrah, there was a question mark over whether India could actually win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. But the Rohit Sharma-led side proved why they are one of the best teams on the planet, if not the best, with an unbeaten run in the competition.
It was the second title for India under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy tenure after they won the 2024 T20 World Cup earlier in Barbados. In the aftermath of India’s second ICC trophy in as many years, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar praised the team, hailing them as the best white-ball team.
"Without a question, any team that reaches all three finals: the 50-over final where they finished as runners-up, the T20 World Cup victory, and now the Champions Trophy must be considered the best white-ball team on the planet,” Gavaskar said in an interview with India Today.
Gavaskar also took a shot at Pakistan, stating that India were able to reach all these finals without any ‘home advantage’.
“There's no doubt whatsoever. Cribbers might crib, as [Gautam] Gambhir said, but to be able to reach all these finals, with no home advantage, and still win, speaks for itself,” Gavaskar added.
