Follow UsThe 16th edition of the Indian Premier League has managed to unearth a couple of domestic talents, and Rinku Singh is one of them. The 25-year-old has been the star for the Kolkata Knight Riders in their campaign this season and is the leading run-scorer for the side.
The southpaw has amassed 337 runs in 11 innings at an average of 56.17 and a strike rate of 151.1, including two half-centuries to guide the Knight Riders over the line on numerous occasions.
Rinku smashed Yash Dayal for five successive sixes in the last over against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad to help the Knight Riders record an improbable win. He followed it up with a couple of valuable knocks, including a 10-ball 21 against Punjab Kings to power the team to a win in a last-ball thriller.
Harbhajan Singh, who has spent considerable time with the Knight Riders, believes Rinku's growth will help him earn the elusive India cap soon."That India cap is not far away from Rinku's head. He's such an inspirational player. He's run all the hard yards and worked very hard to get to where he is today."
"Full credit to him for having that belief in himself. His journey is a life lesson, and all young kids should learn from him," he said in a conversation with Star Sports.
Mohammad Kaif too, echoed his sentiments and feels Rinku has all the ingredients to succeed at the international level. "Rinku Singh has that maturity. His footwork is very good, and he looks to rotate strikes as well."
"Rinku knows how to convert his form into good knocks and also knows when to shift gears. He is capable of hitting big shots as well," he concluded.
Kolkata Knight Riders will host Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, May 11, at Eden Gardens.
