India have begun the two-Test series against West Indies dominantly, triumphing over the visitors in Ahmedabad in just two and a half days. The win came by an innings and 140 runs after India scored 448/5 and declared overnight, with West Indies being made to bat in the morning session. With this win, India now have 921 international victories, which is the joint second most along with England.
Five wickets fell in the first session of day three for the visitors, as the Indian bowlers kept chipping away at them after getting them in early. Mohammed Siraj began the proceedings for India by getting Tagenarine Chanderpaul caught brilliantly at square leg by Nitish Reddy, and then Ravindra Jadeja came in, who dismissed the other opener, John Campbell.
After that, it was a procession to the pavilion with brief intervals in between, as Jadeja picked up four scalps and Siraj picked three. Jadeja was also announced as the Player of the Match, his 10th in Tests in India -- the most for any Indian Test player at home.
Meanwhile, for the Windies, only Alick Athanaze could show some resistance in the second innings as West Indies folded for 146. Earlier, they had been dismissed for 162 in the first innings.
