Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has predicted the outcome of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, saying that India have every chance of making a hat-trick in Australia.
"The Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia over five Test matches is going to be a humdinger," Shastri said while speaking to the ICC website.
Giving a flashback of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since India’s tour of Australia in 2018-19, the former India all-rounder said, "Remember, India have beaten Australia twice on the last two tours, and Australia have not had a hand on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in almost a decade and that's the reason why everyone will be waiting for these two heavyweights of Test match cricket over the last five to eight years to go head-to-head.”
Predicting the result of the series, which will begin with the first Test in Perth on November 22, the 62-year-old said, "It is going to be one heck of a series, and India have every chance of making it a hat-trick because they've got their bowlers fit and if they can bat well, they can tickle [beat] Australia once again."
India beat a Steven Smith and David Warner devoid Australian team, led by Tim Paine, in 2018-19 by a margin of 2-1. However, even with Smith and Warner back and an India team without Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah for most of the series in 2020-21, they beat Australia 2-1 again, with the final victory particularly coming at Gabba. Shastri was the head coach on both occasions.
