On expected lines, India women have left out aggressive opener Shafali Verma for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India, on August 19 (Tuesday). Shafali was earlier part of India’s squad for the T20I series against England, and later did not play a single game during the three-match ODI leg.
Later on, Shafali was part of India A setup for the three-match unofficial ODI series against Australia A, where she scored 36, 4 and 52, failing to leave any sort of mark. However, Yastika Bhatia, who scored 167 runs in the three-match series, returned to the senior setup as the back-up wicketkeeper.
Harleen Deol, who didn’t have the best series in England, retains her place in the 15-member squad. But the biggest news from the squad announcement was Kranti Goud, as the 22-year-old has broken through to the Indian World Cup setup with some solid performances in England.
Goud picked up her career best 6/52 against England in the third ODI at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. Barring that, there’s no place for Shreyanka Patil, who is yet to recover fully from her injury. Sneh Rana, though, has been named in both squads, having made her comeback against England.
