India, New Zealand to headline blockbuster English summer next year

The Men in Blue will tour England to play three ODIs and three T20Is next year

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have announced the schedule for the country’s home summer of 2022 (Men) and have confirmed that New Zealand, India and South Africa will be the three teams the Three Lions will be hosting. While both the Kiwis and the Proteas will be playing Tests, team India, however, will only be touring the country for six white-ball games.

Reigning World Champions New Zealand will kick-off the home summer of 2022 in England at Lord’s on June 2, after which the action will move to Trent Bridge (10-14 June) and Headingley (23-27 June). The series will be a part of the ongoing World Test Championship Cycle, but the Kiwis, who toured England earlier this year, will be not staying back to play white-ball matches.

Instead, the three-Test series against New Zealand will be followed by a full-fledged white-ball series against India which will see the two sides play three ODIs and three T20Is.

The India series will kick-off with the T20Is, with the first match being played on July 1 at Old Trafford. Trent Bridge (July 3) and Ageas Bowl (July 6) will host the last two T20Is, while the twenty-over games will be followed by a three-match ODI series. The ODIs will be played at Edgbaston (9 July), Kia Oval (July 12) and Lord’s (July 14) respectively.

The Three Lions will then host South Africa, who are scheduled to play 3 ODIs, 3 T20Is and 3 Tests.

The series against South Africa will kick-off with the ODIs, following which the two sides will lock horns in a three-match T20I series. The summer will conclude with a three-match Test series against Proteas, which will be played at Lord’s (17-21 August), Edgbaston (25-29 August) and the Kia Oval (8-12 September) respectively.
