India reclaim No.1 ranking in Tests

The Rohit Sharma-led side are now the top-ranked side in all three formats

Following their comprehensive victory over England in Dharamsala, India have now reclaimed their No.1 ranking in Tests. India, who have 122 rating points have pipped Australia who are at 117, while England are at third with 111 points. As a result, India are now the top-ranked team in Tests, One-Day Internationals (ODI) and T20 Internationals (T20I).

India will remain at the summit regardless of what happens in the second Test between Australia and New Zealand in Christchurch. Australia lead the two-Test series 1-0, following a 172-run victory in the first Test in Wellington. They are 202 runs away from claiming the series 2-0.

India had slipped to second in the Test rankings after a drawn series against South Africa in January. Furthermore, with Australia whitewashing Pakistan 3-0 at home, they had gone ahead of India.

The Rohit Sharma-led side suffered a 28-run loss in the first Test against England in Hyderabad. But they rallied to win the next four Tests in Vizag, Rajkot, Ranchi, and most recently in Dharamsala.

“Proud of the team. To go behind in the first Test was disappointing, but to bounce back was great. We have always found people to step up. In various situations, we have been put under pressure. Obviously, we missed a few key players, but we believe there is an incredible amount of talent in India,” head coach Rahul Dravid said after India's 4-1 series win over England.

“Terrific to see youngsters do well. Performances were all-round as went down our whole squad, that was the pleasing thing. I have the privilege of working with a lovely team, it's not just about me. I am learning from them all the time. Rohit has been fantastic to work with. He is a terrific leader. The guys gravitate towards him phenomenally, which is fantastic to see.”

India, who made it to the final of the first two editions of the World Test Championship (WTC), currently sit on top of the table with a points percentage of 68.51.
