India set to host Afghanistan for 3 ODIs in March 2022

Afghanistan will begin 2022 with an ODI series against the Netherlands in Qatar

As part of the Future Tour Program (FTP) schedule, Afghanistan are slated to play 37 ODIs, 12 T20Is and three Test matches in 2022 and 2023, which also includes three-match ODI series against India in March 2022. Added to this, Afghanistan will also play in Asia Cup 2022 (T20 format), followed by the T20 World Cup the same year, followed by another edition of the Asia Cup (50-over format) and the 2023 World Cup in India.

India and Afghanistan have met seven times across formats at the international stage, the last of which was in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2022 in the UAE. India have gone on to win six of their seven meetings against Afghanistan with one match ending in a tie.

Afghanistan will begin 2022 with an ODI series against the Netherlands in Qatar, which is part of the ODI Cricket World Cup Super League and then will play all three formats against Zimbabwe at the end of the year.

"If we bifurcate the tally into limited-overs cricket and the test format, it clearly shows that Afghanistan's focus will be on the shorter formats of the game," ACB said in a release.

"Considering the fact that Afghanistan will be playing 7 ODI series in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, as well as will participate in four major limited-overs events such as Asia Cup 2022 (T20 format), ICC T20 World Cup 2022, the Asia Cup 2023 (ODI format) & the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023," ACB added.
