The International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced the schedule for the warm-up matches ahead of next month’s T20 World Cup, and the schedule sees team India take on Australia (hosts) and New Zealand on 17th October and 19th October respectively. The Australia fixture will be played at the Gabba in Brisbane, as will the contest against the Kiwis. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian side will start their 2022 T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, October 23.
While New Zealand vs South Africa (October 17th, Allan Border Field), England vs Pakistan (October 17th, Gabba) and Afghanistan vs Pakistan (October 19th, Gabba) are some of the notable warm-up fixtures, the teams participating in the qualifiers will also play practice games.
The warm-up encounters kick-off on the 10th of October with three encounters: West Indies vs UAE, Scotland vs Netherlands and Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe. While Namibia and Ireland lock horns with each other on October 11th, the last set of practice matches (among sides playing the Qualifiers) will be played on October 13th.
The 2022 T20WC will kick-off on October 16, Sunday, at the Simonds Stadium in Geelong, with Sri Lanka vs Namibia proving to be the curtain-raiser.
