While India U-19 might have comprehensively wiped Young Lions Invitational XI off the floor on June 24 (Tuesday), there emerged a crack at the top of the order for the visitors. Neither did CSK’s newly found talent, Ayush Mhatre, score (1 off 3), nor did IPL 2025’s breakout star, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored 17 off 13.
It was quite a stuttering start for India U-19 side, who were reduced to 33/2 in just the fifth over. Mhatre was cleaned up in the second over of the innings, and Suryavanshi was later dismissed in the fifth over, after he hit two fours and a six.
But from thereon, the lower-order not just rescued the side but put them on a pedestal, ending with 442 runs on the board after 50 overs. In particular, two players stood out - Tamil Nadu’s young all-rounder Ambrish and Saurashtra’s wicketkeeper batter, Harvansh Pangalia.
While Ambrish scored a dazzling 47-ball 72 laced with six fours and four sixes, Pangalia smacked the leather with a quick-fire 52-ball 103, an innings where he hit eight fours and nine towering sixes.
Deepesh Devendran starred with the ball, as the 17-year-old from Tamil Nadu ended with figures of 3/33, as India beat the Lions side by 231 runs.
