England to carry personal chef for India tour: Report

Telegraph reports that England will take their own chef ‘to try and avoid players falling ill during the seven-week trip

The England cricket team will reportedly carry a personal chef for the tour of India later this month, having done the same for the Pakistan tour 18 months ago, in which they played three Tests across three weeks.

Telegraph reports that England will take their own chef ‘to try and avoid players falling ill during the seven-week trip.’

“England insist it (the move) has nothing to do with not trusting hotels to provide clean facilities and is instead about ensuring players, especially those who refuse to eat spicy food, are eating nutritious meals rather than filling up on energy bars and pizzas,” the Telegraph reports.

The chef is expected to join the squad in Hyderabad before the first Test on January 25 in an attempt to keep on top of the players’ nutrition.

The decision to carry a personal chef to India is said to have been taken after the players gave positive feedback in the aftermath of the Pakistan tour which the Three Lions won 3-0.

Curiously enough, however, the English camp was affected by food poisoning during the Pakistan tour in 2022, due to which the Three Lions had to field Ollie Pope as an emergency, makeshift wicket-keeper in the first Test in Rawalpindi.
