England are set to play ODIs against India for the first time since 2022. The first match will be played at Jamatha in Nagpur. Since the T20Is saw a lot of runs being made in the five-match series, we can expect more batting fireworks in the more extended white-ball versions.
Before that happens, here are the top three memorable ODI knocks by Indian batters against England.
Yuvraj Singh’s 150 at Cuttack will remain one of the best knocks in ODIs against England by an Indian batter. This is not because it is the highest ODI score by an Indian batter against England in the 50-over format but because it was in Yuvraj's comeback series on the Indian team.
Yuvraj scored 150 in 127 balls in that game, hitting 21 fours and three sixes. In that very game, MS Dhoni also scored a century. Yuvraj showed in the game that he still had the fire to succeed.
However, more than that Cuttack hundred of Dhoni, it is his knock at his home ground of Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur that makes people remember his dedication to the game.
The images of Dhoni playing with an ice pack on his back and battling a back spasm are still fresh in the memories of those who watched. In that innings, while opening, Dhoni scored 96 off 106 balls, with 10 fours.
Mohammad Kaif is remembered mainly for his fielding. However, his knock in the Natewest Trophy 2022 final against England at Lord’s is one of the biggest highlights of his career. Chasing the target of 326 to win, Kaif hit 87 off 75 balls and remained not out, taking the team to the famous win.
He had two important partnerships, one with Yuvraj Singh (121 runs) and another with Harbhajan Singh (47 runs) to take his team home.
