The India-Pakistan cricket rivalry is one of the most intense and storied rivalries in sports history, fueled by a combination of historical, political, and cultural factors. The two nations, which share a border and a complex history since their partition in 1947, rarely face each other outside of international tournaments due to political tensions, making every encounter a high-stakes affair.
Both the India and Pakistan men’s sides have played 135 games against each other, with India winning 57 and Pakistan losing 73. Five games ended in a draw.
However, in the last decade, Pakistan have won only one game with India winning seven games and one being a no result. Pakistani fans remember that game won by Pakistan very fondly because it happened in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy at Kennington Oval in London, UK.
Pakistan defeated India by a huge margin of 180 runs after scoring 338/4, courtesy of Fakhar Zaman’s 114 off just 106 deliveries. Meanwhile, India were struck some early blows by as the India top three was cleaned up by Mohammad Amir and India were 33/3. Hardik Pandya smashed 76 off 43 deliveries; however, he was tragically run out due to confusion with Ravindra Jadeja at the other end.
It was Pakistan’s first-ever ICC Champions Trophy triumph. They also have an overall lead in the head-to-head Champions Trophy against India, where they have won three games, and India has won only two, one in 2013 and one in 2017.
