India-Pakistan to headline opening day of Women’s Asia Cup 2024

The eight-team tournament will be held from July 19-28 in Sri Lanka

The 2024 Women’s Asia Cup T20 is all set for a blockbuster start as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has confirmed that India and Pakistan will headline the first day of the competition.

India against Pakistan, however, won’t be the curtain-raiser of the competition. The teams will clash at 7.00 PM local time on July 19, five hours after the clash between United Arab Emirates and Nepal.

The two aforementioned clashes were originally supposed to take place on July 21, with the original schedule having Nepal vs Pakistan and India vs UAE as the two day one contests. But a scheduling tweak from ACC sees the two arch rivals, India and Pakistan, take each other on in the very first day of the competition.

The eight-team tournament will be held from July 19-28 in Sri Lanka. All the games in the tournament will be played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla.

The eight teams have been split into two groups of four. India, Pakistan, Nepal and UAE are part of Group A, while Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Thailand are part of Group B.

The topper of Group A will take on the runner up of Group B in the semis, and vice-versa.

India are the defending Women’s Asia Cup T20 champions. In the last edition in 2022, in Bangladesh, they triumphed over Sri Lanka in the final.
