Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah clobbered Stuart Broad for a record-breaking 29 runs in an over and claimed three top order wickets as the visitors finished day two of the rescheduled fifth Test at Birmingham on top.
England were left hobbling at 84/5 on a rain-hit day with captain Ben Stokes (0 not out) and Jonny Bairstow (12 not out) at crease.
Starting the day at 338/7, allrounder Ravindra Jadeja pulled India closer to a 400-plus total by reaching his second Test hundred in 183 balls. England fought back with two quick wickets as Stuart Broad claimed his 550th Test wicket by dismissing Mohammad Shami while James Anderson then castled Jadeja (104).
The hosts were one wicket away from an all out when the 84th over from Broad to Bumrah turned the tables. Bumrah hit two sixes, three boundaries and a single, while Broad bowled five wides and a no-ball as India went from 377/9 to 412/9 in the span of eight deliveries.
With that Broad bagged an unwanted record of bowling the most expensive over in Test history. However, there was some respite for the veteran when he claimed the catch of Mohammad Siraj off Anderson as India ended their first innings at 416 all out.
England's opening pair of Alex Lees and Zak Crawley were able to put up just 16 runs on the board before Bumrah ran through Lees' defense with the new ball.
Heavy showers then interrupted play for a considerable time. Bumrah tormented England with two more strikes once the play resumed. He got Crawley to hunt a moving ball outside off stump and nick it to Shubman Gill at second slip.
Ollie Pope followed suit very soon as he sent an edge straight to Shreyas Iyer in the slips. Bairstow and Joe Root (31) showed some patience before rain washed out majority of the final session.
Mohammad Siraj, sparingly used on the day, produced a dangerous cross seamer that took an inside edge of Root and fell comfortably for Rishabh Pant.
England sent in Jack Leach to see out the day, but Mohammad Shami removed the spinner off the penultimate over of the day. The hosts are 332 runs behind in the first innings and need to win the match to draw the series 2-2.
