After a seven-day break, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will be back again from May 17. Hopefully, the only disturbance seen in the league this time will be the cracking hits from the bats of young overseas signings.
These players will get a chance to showcase their talent in the absence of experienced players who would miss the playoff stage of the league due to international commitments.
Here are three youngsters who can light up the IPL with their outrageous brilliance:
The South African teenage sensation Lhuan-dre Pretorius burst onto the scene with a brilliant outing in the SA20 2025, smashing 397 runs in 11 innings for Paarl Royals at a stupendous strike rate of 166, hitting three fifties in the tournament as well.
The left-handed batter also amazed the Rajasthan Royals captain while batting in the nets with his brilliant stroke play. Imagine Pretorius coming after Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and the three young southpaws tearing apart the opposition. What a scene it would turn out to be.
Mitchell Owen, a 23-year-old youngster from Hobart, Australia, was in amazing form in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25, scoring 452 runs at an average of 45.2 and a superlative strike rate of 203.6.
After having played for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Aussie signed up with the Punjab Kings as a replacement for the injured Glenn Maxwell. Though he was not in his best form in the PSL, one cannot rule out his ability to hit the ball long and high.
After South African and Australian youngsters, comes the turn of Kiwi man- Bevon-John Jacobs. Born in South Africa’s Pretoria, Jacobs follows in the footsteps of the likes of Grant Elliott, Neil Wagner and Devon Conway, all South Africa-born cricketers who searched for an opportunity to play international cricket via the New Zealand route.
So far, Jacobs has not been able to make his international debut, but the 23-year-old will most likely make his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians, having already played for their sister franchise, MI Emirate,s in ILT20. In the Super Smash 2024-25, the Auckland Aces batter smashed 263 runs at an average of 37.57 and a strike rate of 140.
Recently, the South Africa-born man smashed a daddy hundred in a First-Class match to boost his confidence.
