Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will host the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in what is going to be the most anticipated encounter in the early stages of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The match, scheduled for March 28 (Friday), will be the 10th encounter between the two teams at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai.
In the previous nine matches, RCB could win only one and their last victory came in their very first match at this ground in 2008. Since then, in 16 years, they have not beaten CSK at their home even once.
Here are the top three instances of CSK humiliating RCB at Chepauk.
IPL 2019: When Harbhajan, Tahir And Jadeja Demolished The RCB
RCB, brimming with talented batters like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Moeen Ali, were bowled out for 70 by the CSK spin trio of Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir and Ravindra Jadeja. While Tahir and Harbhajan picked three each, Jadeja had two wickets to his name. It so far remains the lowest total recorded in an IPL match at the venue.
IPL 2014: When Tamil Boys Ashwin And Vijay Did All The Damage
In 2014, batting first, CSK posted a humongous total of 205/5 in their 20 overs, all thanks to Murali Vijay’s 95 off just 52 balls. Michael Hussey also scored a brilliant 62.
Later on, another Tamil Nadu man, Ravichandran Ashwin, took charge with the ball and removed the top two-Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal, and finished with figures of 3/16 in his four overs, breaking the back of the RCB chase.
It resulted in a 58-run win for the hosts, which is also RCB’s biggest defeat at Chepauk.
IPL 2011 Final: When RCB Were Robbed Of A Trophy For The First Time
More than the two losses above, it would be the 2011 IPL final that would hurt an RCB fan or player the most. It was their first attempt at silverware in the IPL and they could not do it. It has been 14 years since that and yet the RCB are trophyless.
In that game, tasked to chase 184 to win after Hussey’s 83 got the Super Kings to 183, the RCB were restricted to only 162/7 with Shadab Jakati, Ashwin, Suraj Randiv and Suresh Raina combined, going for just 93 runs in 12 overs and picking four wickets between them.
