Rishabh Pant’s poor Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 continued even into season's third game for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He was yet again dismissed for a low score, this time by Glenn Maxwell, scoring just four runs, giving an easy catch to the short fine leg fielder on a delivery that he could have easily hit for a boundary.
LSG were sent in to bat first by Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer after he won the toss and decided to bowl first in Lucknow. Aiden Markram gave a good start to the home side after Arshdeep Singh dismissed Mitch Marsh in the first over of the game. He got going with three fours in Arshdeep’s next over but was dismissed in the fourth over by Lockie Ferguson.
At 33/2, LSG needed Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant to notch up a strong partnership but the LSG skipper played a very loose shot in the next over bowled by Maxwell.
The Australian off-spinning all-rounder bowled a half-tracker outside the leg stump, and Pant had to clear the short-fine leg fielder to reach a boundary. But he got unbalanced while going down on one knee in an attempt to hit the ball over the inner circle and ended up mishitting it to Yuzvendra Chahal, who was stationed there.
With this dismissal, Pant has now cemented his status as Maxwell’s bunny in the IPL with three dismissals and just 12 runs scored against him in four innings. This is also the worst ever start for Pant in an IPL season, with him scoring just 17 runs in first three innings.
