India’s last group game in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup against Bangladesh turned out to be a rain-affected one. It was eventually abandoned with only 35.4 overs bowled.
The rain arrived right after the toss, which delayed the start of the game. Once it began as a 43-over contest, Bangladesh batted 12.2 overs and added 39/2 in that period. However, rain was back and the game could only begin at 8:05 PM, with further overs getting lost. It was eventually reduced to a 27-overs-a-side contest.
Indian bowlers were quite good from that point, and Radha Yadav, in particular, was amongst the wickets. Yadav, playing her first game of the tournament, picked three wickets for just 30 runs in six overs as Bangladesh ended their innings on 119/9.
India were set a revised target of 126 in 27 overs, but they could bat only 8.4 overs. Amanjot Kaur was opening the innings as Pratika Rawal injured her ankle on the wet outfield while fielding at midwicket. India were looking good to chase it down much before the 27-over mark, and had scored 57 in 8.4 overs. But the rain arrived again and the game was eventually abandoned.
With this, both teams shared a point each and India ended with seven points in seven games. Bangladesh had three points to their name. India’s next game would be the big semifinal against Australia on October 30 in Navi Mumbai.
