England all-rounder Jamie Overton has been ruled out of the remainder of the white-ball series against West Indies, on May 31 (Saturday). Overton sustained the injury during the first ODI, where he picked up figures of 3/22, and was one of England’s best bowlers in the clash.
During the ODI opener, Overton sustained a broken finger while trying to make a return catch in the clash at Edgbaston. Whilst the right-arm pacer returned to finish his bowling, later scans have revealed an injury that has ruled him out of the next five clashes.
However, the Three Lions have announced that there will be no replacement added to the ODI setup.
“He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of the England medical team,” England Cricket said in a statement on Saturday. “No replacement will be added to the ODI squad."
England currently lead the series 1-0, and have a chance to seal the tie in the second ODI in Cardiff, on June 1 (Sunday).
