Injured Fabian Allen ruled out of T20 World Cup

The allrounder will be replaced by left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein

West Indies allrounder Fabian Allen has been ruled out of the 2021 T20 World Cup due to an ankle injury and will be replaced by left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein. He is the closest to a like-for-like replacement for Allen.

Hosein will be replaced on West Indies' reserves list by Gudakesh Motie. He joins Darren Bravo, Sheldon Cottrell and Jason Holder who are all on standbys.

Hosein has been a consistent performer in the Caribbean Premier League and has featured in nine One-Day Internationals and six T20 Internationals. The left-arm spinner has an economy of just 6.33 in 57 T20s. He picked up 13 wickets wickets at a superb economy of 4.92 in CPL 2021.

Meanwhile, another left-arm spinner Motie made his T20 debut in the last edition of CPL and scalped eight wickets in six encounters at an economy of 6.52. The 26-year-old is yet to make his international debut.

The defending champions will start their World Cup campaign against England on October 23.
