Matthew Short has been ruled out of the third and final One-Day International against West Indies, which will be played in Canberra on Tuesday (February 6), due to a low-grade hamstring injury. Australia have replaced him with Ben McDermott.
Short sustained the injury while batting in the second ODI, which Australia won by 83 runs and took an unassailable 2-0 lead. The right-hander scored 41 runs but didn’t come out to field in the second innings.
McDermott, 29, hasn’t played an ODI for almost two years. The wicketkeeper-batter has scored 223 runs in five ODIs at an average of 44.60. He last played a 50-over game for Australia in April 2022.
Australia will also be without Josh Hazlewood, who will join the squad for the T20I series. However, Xavier Bartlett is likely to feature in the XI after being rested for the second ODI. He picked up 4/17 in the first game and was named Player of the Match.
