India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the first three T20 Internationals (T20I), the BCCI announced on October 29 (Wednesday). Skipper Suryakumar Yadav announced that he would be one of the five players missing out from the XI in the first T20I. While the other four were available for election, Nitish was not.
Nitish sustained the injury during the second One-Day International (ODI) in Adelaide on October 23 (Thursday), and he continues to recover from a left quadriceps injury.
"Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out for the first three T20Is. The all-rounder, who was recovering from his left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide, complained of neck spasms, which has impacted his recovery and mobility. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress," an update from the BCCI read.
With Nitish out of the first three games, he is expected to be available for the last two matches in Gold Coast (November 6) and Brisbane (November 8).
The 22-year-old has played four T20Is since making his debut in October last year, and has 90 runs at a strike rate of 180, with a highest score of 74. He also has three wickets to his name in the format.
Speaking of the first T20I, India have been asked to bat first under overcast and chilly conditions in Canberra. India's leading wicket-taker Arshdeep Singh has been benched once again, with Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana and Shivam Dube as their pace options.
Kuldeep Yadav, who played only the final ODI in Sydney, is part of the deadly spin trio that also has Varun Chakaravarthy and Axar Patel.
