Bangladesh have released their 16-member squad for their two-match Test series against India, starting September 19.
The tour, which also includes three T20Is, will begin with a Test in Chennai on September 27 and then be followed by a Test in Kanpur.
Bangladesh will be without the services of left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam, who also didn’t play the second Test against Pakistan after suffering a groin strain. Taskin Ahmed replaced him in the Test, which Bangladesh won by six wickets.
Opening batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy also returns to the side after not playing the Pakistan series due to a groin injury. In his absence, Shadman opened the batting for Bangladesh and scored 136 runs in his four innings against the hosts. It would be interesting to see if Mahmudul would have to warm the bench.
The new inclusion in this squad is 26-year-old uncapped batter Jaker Ali, who has played 17 T20Is for Bangladesh. The right-handed keeper batter has an average of 41.47 and 114 catches in first-class cricket, along with 13 stumpings.
Apart from Jaker, Bangladesh have gone with the same squad that claimed a historic victory in Pakistan, defeating the hosts 2-0 in a two-match series. This was Bangladesh's first overseas Test victory.
The squad also includes Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently playing a solitary County Championship game for Surrey. He will not fly with the team from Dhaka and will directly join them in India. Notably, he has been named in the FIR of a murder case in Bangladesh along with 147 others and is yet to return to his home country after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
India had already released their squad for the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai.
