Injury Forces Australia's Grace Harris Out Of Women's World Cup 2025
The 32-year-old recently returned to the ODI side after a year's absence
In a massive blow to defending champions Australia, powerful batter Grace Harris has been ruled out of the upcoming Women's ODI World Cup due to a calf strain. She made her first ODI appearance for Australia since March 2024 during the final match of the series against India in Delhi recently, but suffered the injury while fielding.
She missed the first two games of the series, but returned to the XI after all-rounder Annabel Sutherland suffered a hip niggle. Pace-bowling all-rounder Heather Graham, whose only ODI appearance came in 2019, replaces Harris for the mega event.
Harris' much-awaited World Cup debut has been pushed back further due to this injury. She was part of the 2022 World Cup-winning squad, but did not feature in the XI.
She has been in excellent form of late, having smashed 338 runs for Surrey in the T20 Blast at a strike rate of 156. She then found her rhythm in The Hundred as well, hitting 214 runs at a strike rate of 174 for the London Spirit.
Sutherland (hip), Phoebe Litchfield (quad) and Darcie Brown (back spasms) all missed the final ODI against India in Delhi. The medical team are reportedly keeping a close eye on them ahead of the World Cup.
Ahead of their World Cup opener against New Zealand in Indore, Australia will play a warm-up match against England in Bengaluru.
