Insane scenes at the Hague, as 27th-ranked Jersey have knocked Scotland out of the T20 World Cup 2026, with a one-wicket win on July 11 (Friday). It was Jersey’s first-ever win over Scotland, as they are now within touching distance of a place in next year’s T20 World Cup.
At the start of the tournament, it seemed like the Netherlands and Scotland were favourites to qualify from the European Final Qualifiers. However, Italy beat Scotland in the most dramatic of fashions, forcing them into an almost knockout clash against the Netherlands.
Jersey won the toss and opted to bowl against Scotland. Richie Berrington’s side could only put on 133 runs in their stipulated 20 overs, with Matthew Cross top-scoring for them as he scored a 40-ball 43.
Chasing 134, Jersey started most incredibly, smashing 81 runs off the first 11 overs, chasing for the net run-rate. However, that’s where they started falling apart like a deck of cards, as they went from 81/1 to 110/6, making heavy work of the run chase.
Needing five runs off the last over, Jersey lost the plot off the second ball, with Benjamin Ward going back for a 17-ball 18. That’s where their wicketkeeper, Jake Dunford, pulled off a classic, with four off three balls, as Jersey chased it down off the last ball.
It knocked Scotland out of the T20 World Cup 2026 and put Jersey within touching distance of making it to next year’s T20 event.
