NEWSFormer Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq slams the PCB for replacing a Test with two T20Is against West Indies. While he does not mind Pakistan playing two T20Is, Inzamam believes that Test cricket should not be sacrificed for that. The five T20Is will be played in Barbados and Guyana, while both the Tests will be played in Jamaica.
Pakistan, who were initially scheduled to play three Tests and three T20Is o their tour of West Indies will now play just two Tests and five T20Is against the hosts, beginning July 27. “I don’t mind if they want to play more T20s but Test cricket should not be sacrificed for this,” Inzamam said on his YouTube channel.
"How can you stop players from quitting Test cricket, in the future, if you are pursuing the same line of thought? he further added.
A veteran of 120 Tests feels the ICC should interfere in this regard so as to not harm Test cricket in the future. “I request the ICC and other boards to see it because when the players will adopt the same approach, you will get hurt,” he added.
Inzamam also stated that reducing a Test for T20s ahead of the T20 World Cup makes little sense as Pakistan would be playing the likes of England and New Zealand before the mega event.
“If you wanted more practice for the T20 World Cup, we should have asked them for T20s without reducing Test matches. If you ignore Test matches, it will hurt our cricket in the long run. Even if Pakistan didn’t get more T20 matches against West Indies, we still would have had enough practice with matches scheduled against England and New Zealand,” the Pakistan batting great stated.
