Inzamam-ul-Haq Attacks BCCI, Pushes Cricket Boards To Boycott IPL
The former Pakistani batter criticised BCCI for not sending Indian players to overseas T20 leagues
Former Pakistani batter Inzamam-ul-Haq has asked for cricket boards worldwide to boycott the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Speaking to a Pakistani channel, Inzamam, who has more than 10,000 ODI runs for Pakistan, offered a scathing criticism of BCCI’s hand-wringing in global cricket. Without saying it in as many words, Inzamam found it dictatorial that Indian cricketers are not allowed to play overseas franchise leagues, but the top players in the world line up to play the IPL, as no other league happens in the world at that time.
He also commented on India’s undeniable advantage of playing all their matches in Dubai, while every other team playing against them has to travel from Pakistan to play them.
“Keep aside the Champions Trophy. Top players participate in IPL but Indian players don't participate in other leagues,” Inzmam said.
“Other boards should stop sending their players to IPL. If you (BCCI) don't release your players for leagues, then other boards should take a stance.”
Earlier, due to the hybrid model adopted because BCCI refused to travel to Pakistan, India men's cricket team are playing all their games in Dubai in the ICC Champions Trophy. While teams playing against them have had to travel in and out of Pakistan to the UAE to play their games.
Many former and current international cricketers, including Naseer Hussain, Pat Cummins, Michael Atherton, and Rassie van der Dussen, have questioned India's undeniable advantage in the tournament by playing all their games in Dubai. However, former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar didn't agree, asking Hussain and Atherton to look at their own team and stop moaning about India’s advantage.
