Inzamam Ul Haq resigns from his role as PCB chief selector

The former Pakistan captain sent his resignation letter to the PCB chief Zaka Ashraf on Monday

In the first casualty in the aftermath of Pakistan’s poor show at the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector, Inzamam Ul Haq has resigned from his position. The former Pakistan captain sent his resignation letter to the PCB chief Zaka Ashraf on Monday.

The Men in Green have lost four matches in a row at the ongoing World Cup in India. Their chances of making it to the semi-final are reduced to mathematical rather than realistic.

The development is also a consequence of Haq's name coming in conflict of interest allegations. Several media reports claimed that Haq had a stake in a player’s management company registered with the PCB. As a result, there were questions raised on the selection process. While the reports are not verified, Haq rejected those claims.

The board has set up a five-man committee to investigate into the matter.

Haq was appointed in the role in August this year. This was his second stint as the PCB chief selector, after serving a three-year long term between 2016 and 2019. Duriing the first run, Haq also picked Pakistan 2019 ODI World Cup squad.

The current PCB selection committee also included the team director Mickey Arthur, head coach Grant Bradburn, and secretary Hasan Cheema.
