IPL 2021: Last two league games to be played at the same time

The BCCI announced the last two league stage matches between SRH and MI as well as RCB and DC will be played simultaneously

The BCCI on Tuesday announced the final two league stage matches of IPL 2021 on October 8 will be played simultaneously . Sunrisers Hyderabad will face off Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi while Royal Challengers Bangalore will face Delhi Capitals in Dubai in the last two matches of the edition.

Until now, the matches for a double-header were spaced out between four hours in the afternoon and in the evening.

"In a first for the IPL, the last two league matches before the VIVO IPL 2021 Playoffs will be played concurrently. On the last day of the league stage (08.10.2021) of the ongoing season, instead of having one afternoon match and one evening match, two matches (SRH v MI and RCB v DC) will be played simultaneously at 7.30 PM IST (6.00 PM GST)," an official release said.

The decision was taken at the IPL Governing Council meeting on Tuesday. 

The BCCI also said that tender for the media rights will be released on October 25 following the announcement of the two new teams.

"The IPL Media Rights tender for the cycle 2023-2027 will be released immediately after the appointment of two new IPL teams which is scheduled to be announced on 25th October 2021," the release said.
