The Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) will have fans' presence in the stadiums when the tournament resumes on September 19 in the UAE, the BCCI confirmed on Wednesday.
However, the stadiums in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai will have crowds at a limited capacity due to the COVID-19.
"This match will be a momentous occasion as IPL will welcome the fans back to the stadiums after a brief hiatus owing to Covid-19 situation," an official release said.
The pandemic had forced the IPL 2020 to be played behind closed doors, with broadcasters using noise simulation for fans presence in the stadium. Crowds at limited capacity were allowed for India's home series against England, while the first leg of the IPL 2021 went on during a brutal wave of the virus across India. Multiple cases within the bio-secure bubble had led to the suspension of the tournament on May 4.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians will take on arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings in the first match of the second leg at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
