IPL 2021 will go on as per schedule: Sourav Ganguly

There were doubts about the feasibility of hosting the tournament after the recent rise in coronavirus cases in India

Three cricketers and over a dozen of other staff members, including ground staff, BCCI Organising team, tested positive for Coronavirus, which genuinely brought questions regarding the sanity of the bio-bubble.

Maharashtra Chief Minister hinted at a possible lockdown like last year while state Cabinet Minister Nawab Malik later announced that there would be a night curfew in force from 8 pm to 7 am from April 5 onwards.

In the wake of that, words started floating around about matches moving out of Maharashtra but BCCI President Sourav Ganguly rubbished all of them, stating that the IPL 2021 will go on as per schedule. "Everything will go on as per schedule," Ganguly told ANI.

Yesterday, BCCI Vice-president Rajeev Shukla stated that the board is mulling the idea of vaccinating the players by discussing with the Union Health Ministry.

"In order to cope with this coronavirus rise, I think the only solution is to get vaccinated. BCCI is also thinking on those lines that players should be vaccinated. Nobody knows when coronavirus is going to end and you can't give a deadline that by this time frame, it will not be there so players can play easily. So, I think now will have to think over that. Vaccination should be done for the players also," Shukla told ANI.

The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to get underway in four days of time, with Mumbai Indians taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
