The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will reportedly kick-off on Saturday, March 26, with the final set to be played on May 29, meaning the tournament will last two entire months. According to Cricbuzz, the decision was taken at the IPL Governing Council (GC) meeting earlier today, in which the GC is also set to have confirmed Maharashtra as the venue for the group stages of the competition.
"The IPL will kick off on March 26, the full schedule will come soon. We will also have crowds but as per the policy of the Maharashtra government. Whether it will be 25 or 50 per cent of the stadium capacity will be decided by the government instruction," Cricbuzz quoted IPL chairman Brijesh Patel as saying.
The 2022 edition will oversee the participation of two more sides - Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans - and thus the total number of matches is expected to be 74, 14 more than the subsequent count in the 2021 edition.
Maharashtra is expected to host the league games, but the BCCI, however, have reportedly not yet decided on the venue for the playoffs.
