Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have announced Kedar Jadhav as the replacement for England all-rounder David Willey for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, it was announced on Monday (May 1). Willey, who misses out due to a broken toe and adductor strain, played four matches, and picked up three wickets this season.
Jadhav, who first played in the IPL in 2010, has played 93 matches in the tournament, scoring 1,196 runs. He has previously had stint with RCB as well, representing the franchise on 17 occasions. He was brought on board for INR 1 crore.
With RCB struggling for runs beyond Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell this season, Jadhav comes into the team to add a bit of experience in the middle-order, consisting of the likes of Shahbaz Ahmed and Mahipal Lomror. Dinesh Karthik too has not been at his best this season, having hit just 83 runs this season in eight innings.
Jadhav last played in the IPL in 2021, where he turned up for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), scoring just 55 runs in five matches. In his 16 innings for RCB, Jadhav scored 309 runs at 25.75, including a score of 69. Other than SRH and RCB, Jadhav has also represented Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Kochi Kerala Tuskers (KTK).
Jadhav continues to play domestic cricket for Maharashtra, representing them in first-class and 50-over cricket. However, he has not played a competitive T20 match in November 2021.
In the latter stages of his international career, Jadhav was used as a part-time off-spinner, picking up 27 of his 33 List A wickets in ODIs. Jadhav has never bowled a ball in the IPL. However, he has picked up four wickets at an economy rate of 8.80.
