5 factors that shaped Gujarat's fourth win of IPL 2024

Missed the PBKS-GT game? Worry not. This recap has got you covered

Two overs for Mohit in powerplay

Prabhsimran Singh was up and running in the first three overs when Shubman Gill decided to hand over the ball to Mohit Sharma for the first time in the powerplay this season.

The right-arm seamer also bowled the sixth over and dismissed Prabhsimran, which triggered a collapse. The last time he took a wicket in the powerplay in IPL was in 2020.

Another collapse for PBKS, courtesy Noor & Rashid

Punjab Kings lost their first wicket at 52 on the third delivery of the sixth over, and by the end of the 11th over, they were reeling at 80/4.

Sam Curran fell to Rashid Khan, while Rilee Rossouw and Liam Livingstone were undone by Noor Ahmad. The big stars once again failed to deliver for PBKS.

Best IPL figures for Sai Kishore

Having missed the last five games, the left-arm spinner made a stunning comeback against PBKS on April 21 (Sunday). What was started by Rashid and Noor, was finished by Sai Kishore.

He kept targeting the stumps and finished with figures of 4/33 - his best in the IPL. Sai Kishore dismissed Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh, Punjab’s best batters in IPL 2024.

Livingstone makes a mark, with the ball

Liam Livingstone has been mediocre with the bat in this year’s IPL. The 30-year-old got out for just six runs against GT, falling to Noor. He is the only batter with a strike rate of less than 100 against spin in IPL since 2023 (minimum 100 balls).

The spin-bowling allrounder, however, made an impact with the ball in the second innings. Livingstone dismissed Shubman Gill and David Miller and finished with figures of 2/19.

Tewatia at it again

The Titans unnecessarily complicated the run-chase and left 52 runs for the final six overs. That’s when Rahul Tewatia walked in and slammed 36* off 18 deliveries, helping GT win the game with five balls to spare.

The left-hander smashed Kagiso Rabada for three fours in the 18th over and that sealed the game for Gujarat. He has always loved playing against PBKS, averaging 54.5 and striking at 187.93 in run-chases since 2020.
