Punjab Kings (PBKS) became the latest team to blow away a chance to take a grip of their top-two fate as they succumbed to a six-wicket loss at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 24 (Saturday) in Jaipur. They put up a healthy 206 on the board, which their skipper, Shreyas Iyer, believes was above par, but rues the fact that his bowlers did not hit the right lengths.
"It was a fantastic score. There was some odd and variable bounce. It was above par. I think we weren't disciplined enough with our lengths. We went overboard with the bouncer. Couldn't hit the hard length," Iyer said at the post-match presentation.
DC have played all their matches in the IPL 2025 season and are on fifth with 15 points from 14 matches. In fact, they are the first team not to make the playoffs after winning the first four matches of the campaign.
Reflecting on where the campaign went wrong for DC, stand-in skipper Faf du Plessis said, "It's one of the great mysteries, we tried to answer that question a few times in the dressing room. Confidence, lack of runs, when you are playing well, you get to win the small margins. Every game that small window of 5-6 overs in batting and bowling, and in a big tournament like that, it cost us."
PBKS will play their final league match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 26 (Monday) in Jaipur. The winner of that match could very well see them finish in the top two.
