Eagerly awaiting how the talents from your favourite Indian Premier League team performed at the Big Bash League 2024/25? Don’t worry. We've got you covered. Spoiler alert: Two of the biggest talents played for the same team - Melbourne Renegades - and dropped one stinker after another.
Here are the three IPL-bound players who had a BBL season to forget:
The 21-year-old Jacob Bethell started a bidding war between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). But ultimately RCB bagged the generational talent for INR 2.6 crore.
Unfortunately, the left-hander has been quite disappointed in the ongoing edition of the BBL for Melbourne Renegades. The English all-rounder could only amass 108 runs, averaging a paltry 15.42 with a dismal strike rate of 101.88, with just EIGHT FOURS in the entire competition.
Not to forget, he’s only picked up two wickets with the ball.
After the first season of pyrotechnics, it was expected that Jake Fraser-McGurk would lift his stocks to an all-time high. But in the ongoing edition of the BBL, all that he’s done is take those high stocks and crash them to an all-time low.
Following a skyrocketing IPL debut, Fraser-McGurk’s 2024/25 BBL season was quite the downfall, with a grand total of 86 runs across eight games, averaging just 10.75 while striking at 103.61. This is the same guy who struck at 234.04 in his debut IPL season.
While Sherfane Rutherford might have already shifted his focus to International League T20 (ILT20), let’s not forget the bad display he dropped during his BBL stint for Sydney Thunder. The left-hander batter, barring the 39*, had quite a forgettable season, with just 74 runs, averaging 14.80.
Not only was his average on the lower side, but even his strike rate (110.4) was far from what you would expect from a finisher. Gujarat Titans might just want to look away and not read it.
