Over the last two years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has become a complete batting paradise. There was one point before these two years when bowlers had more than enough support to post records that now seem almost unlikely to be broken.
Without wasting any more time, what are the 3 bowling records that will never be broken:
The 2024 IPL started a wrong trend, as the games have become increasingly batter-friendly. In such a climate, expecting records in favour of bowlers is nothing but a cruel joke.
Back in 2011, Praveen Kumar set the record for most maiden overs in a campaign - five - which has to date stood the test of time. Since then, only Trent Boult (2023 IPL) has come closer to the record, with three maidens for Rajasthan Royals.
3.4 overs, 12 runs, six wickets.
Now, close your eyes and think about it. Alzarri Joseph’s dreamy figures of 6/12 can perhaps NEVER EVER be broken. The West Indian, in just his debut IPL season, ran through Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting line-up, removing the likes of David Warner, Vijay Shankar and Deepak Hooda, amongst the other wickets.
It isn’t about the wickets. Maybe there could be a bowler who could pick up six wickets in an innings, but the real question is whether a bowler can concede just 12 runs across his spell?
Gone are the days when you’d see great spells.
If bowlers are conceding 40 runs and picking up two or three wickets, they are considered as GOAT spells. Once upon a time, there were days in the IPL when bowlers had spells like 4-1-6-0, with an economy rate of 1.50.
One of those legendary spells was from IPL legend Yuzvendra Chahal, who finished his four-over spell against CSK with figures of 1/6 in Chennai back in 2019.
