Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a terrible Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and are all but set to finish at the bottom of the points table. However, the Men in Yellow signed a couple of phenomenal replacements during the season, who could end up serving them for years to come. And, there’s no denying CSK will retain Ayush Mhatre ahead of the next season.
In six innings, the 17-year-old has smashed 206 runs at an average of 34.33 and a strike rate of 187.3. Mhatre, who came in as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad, has the second-best strike rate (190.7) in the powerplay this season (at least 100 runs). Mhatre has also managed to impress MS Dhoni and is all set to be Gaikwad’s opening partner for the next few years.
If Mhatre isn’t enough, CSK also signed Dewald Brevis in the middle of the season, and the South African has set the tournament on fire since his arrival. The 22-year-old, who came in as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh, has hit 168 runs across five innings at an average of 33.6 and a strike rate of 164.7.
Brevis has three 40-plus and one 30-plus scores in just five innings, and has taken his game to the next level in the last year. The right-hander is a perfect batter for the middle overs, and CSK could easily form their batting order around him, Gaikwad and Mhatre for the next few seasons.
Corbin Bosch, who replaced Lizaad Williams, featured in only three games for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2025, but surely managed to make an impression both with the bat and ball. The all-rounder scored 47 runs across two innings at a strike rate of 146.88 and also bowled seven overs, claiming one wicket at an economy of 7.86. Bosch is a perfect fit for lower down the order.
