IPL 2025: Who are the oldest players to score an IPL fifty?
Aged 40+, these two titans of world cricket showed they still had fire in them even in the final phase of their cricketing career
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been the land of finding the next superstar of world cricket. However, it is also the tournament where already established names, who are older in age, have had blast of an innings.
In IPL 2025 too, there are some old foxes who are in the last phases of their career and want to end their journey on a high by playing memorable innings. They can take inspiration from the legends in the following list.
Here is the list of oldest players to score a fifty in the epic Indian Premier League (IPL)
Adam Gilchrist
85* vs RCB, Bengaluru, 2013 - 41y 181d
Adam Gilchrist had a spectacular run in the six seasons of the IPL that he was a part of. He even won an IPL title as captain of the Deccan Chargers (DCH) in 2009.
The Australian legend was in the final stages of his cricketing career when he moved to Kings XI Punjab and became their captain in 2011. In the three seasons with the Kings, he performed extremely well.
The fifty against RCB in Bengaluru on 14th May 2013 was Gilchrist’s penultimate match as he was winding down his cricketing career. Chasing a target of 175, Gilchrist lost Shaun Marsh early on. Azhar Mahmood walked in at number 3 and stitched a terrific 118-run partnership for the second wicket with Gilchrist and sealed the game for Punjab.
Gilchrist scored an unbeaten 85 winning his final “Player of the Match” award in his cricketing career. At 41 years and 181 days, Adam Gilchrist's last fifty plus is the oldest fifty plus score in IPL till date.
Chris Gayle
99 vs RR, Abu Dhabi, 2020 - 41y 39d
Chris Gayle has been the poster boy of IPL for a long time. No batter in IPL was a bigger match-winner than him. Since his move to RCB in 2011, Gayle for a better period of 10 years ruled the IPL by winning multiple ‘Orange Caps’ and smashing a truck load of sixes.
In his penultimate IPL season in 2020 where he was coming in at number three for the Kings XI Punjab, the big Jamaican who was having a decent season till then, smashed a terrific 99 of 63 balls with six fours and eight sixes. He became only the third batter after Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan to get out at 99. This was Gayle’s final fireworks in IPL as the West Indies legend never scored a big knock in after this.
Chris Gayle
51 vs KKR, Sharjah, 2020 - 41y 35d
Prior to his epic 99 against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Gayle had scored his second fifty of IPL 2020 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Sharjah. This was a quick fire knock as ‘The Universe Boss’ used the small boundary size of Sharjah and smashed a fifty in just 28 balls with two fours and five sixes.
He stitched a 100-run partnership with Mandeep Singh and almost took Kings XI Punjab across the finish line before getting out when Punjab needed just three more runs to win.
