Ravichandran Ashwin's YouTube channel will no longer focus on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) matches for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The all-rounder, known for his cricketing acumen will neither preview nor review any of his team's matches.
"Given the nature of the discussions on this forum over the last week, we want to be mindful of how things can be interpreted and have chosen to step away from covering CSK games, both previews and reviews, for the rest of this season," read a note from the admin of Ashwin's channel.
The move comes after there was a backlash following Prasanna Agoram, a former data analyst for South Africa and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), criticising CSK over the inclusion of Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad despite having Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the squad. However, Ashwin did not participate in this particular discussion.
The video has been taken down after a massive social media backlash. When CSK head coach Stephen Fleming was asked about this, he replied, saying that he didn't even know Ashwin had such a channel.
"I have no idea. I didn't even know he [Ashwin] had a channel, so I don't follow that stuff. That's irrelevant," Fleming said.
Ashwin has not had a good start to the IPL 2025 season, managing just three scalps at 40 and an economy rate of 9.23. CSK, who have lost three of their four matches, will hope to get back to winning ways when they take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur on April 8 (Tuesday)
