It has been a dream start in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre. In five of his seven innings, he has over 30, and has converted one of them into a fifty. He has over 240 runs in his debut IPL season at a strike rate of 189, and he has been among the bright prospects for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) going forward.
Mhatre not just smashed 28 runs in an over from Arshad Khan in the clash against Gujarat Titans (GT), but he also created history by registering the best strike rate in a season by a batter for CSK in IPL history.
192.4 - Ayush Mhatre in 2025
165.7 - Moeen Ali in 2022
162.1 - Suresh Raina in 2014
153.9 - Ambati Rayudu in 2018
In fact, he has the highest strike rate for a CSK batter in a season.
189.00 - Ayush Mhatre in 2025
172.50 - Ajinkya Rahane in 2023
171.80 - Ravindra Jadeja in 2020
168.00 - Michael Hussey in 2008
Also, only Vaibhav Suryavanshi (24) and Ishan Kishan (13) have hit more sixes than Mhatre (11) in an IPL season at 18 or younger.
His innings came to an end on 34 off just 17 thanks to a well-judged catch by Mohammed Siraj at mid-off. He smashed three fours and as many sixes during his knock.
