IPL 2025: CSK Legend Compares Vaibhav Suryavanshi to Adam Gilchrist
The 14-year-old became the youngest centurion in the history of T20 cricket (where data is available)
Former Australia batter and Chennai Super Kings (CSK)’s batting coach Michael Hussey has compared Rajasthan Royals (RR)’s 14-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi to Adam Gilchrist after the youngster smashed a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Apart from hitting the second-fastest IPL century, the left-hander also became the youngest centurion in the history of T20 cricket (where data is available). “It was incredible, was it not? There are some of these players who come along and when they are batting in the middle, you do not want to miss a ball," said Hussey.
“When Gilchrist walked out to bat, the whole Australian team would come to the viewing area to watch the game. Because they (such players) are just so exciting. I felt the same watching this young kid. Seeing him score a century off 30-odd balls was amazing to watch.”
Suryavanshi scored 101 off 38 deliveries and helped RR chase down a target of 210 with more than four overs to spare. He put on 166 runs in just 11.5 overs alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal (70* off 40). “Him and Yashasvi Jaiswal batting together was breathtaking. It is reckless at times, but it is so exciting to watch. To be able to play like that, against some of the best bowlers, it just blows your mind.
“His life and world have changed forever now. He is going to be on such a high probably for weeks or months. He will need good people around him to guide him. He is very lucky to have Rahul Dravid (RR head coach) and some good senior players."
