6, 4, 4, 6, 6, 4 is what Dewald Brevis managed in one single over from Vaibhav Arora to completely turn the tie against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on its head. Courtesy of those big hits, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter also brought up his fifty off just 22 deliveries - his first in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
37 runs vs RCB, Mumbai, 2021 (Bowler: Harshal Patel)
33 runs vs PBKS, Mumbai, 2014 (Bowler: Parvinder Awana)
30 runs vs KKR, Kolkata, 2025 (Bowler: Vaibhav Arora)
At 22 years and 8 days, Brevis became the youngest player to score an IPL fifty for CSK after Ayush Mhatre (17y 291d) and Suresh Raina (21y 148d).
However, he was dismissed off the very next over as he was caught at long-on off Varun Chakaravarthy. He walked into bat in the powerplay with CSK in trouble at 56/4 and put on 67 off just 41 deliveries to bring the team back into the game.
CSK needed 87 off the last 10 overs before Arora came on to bowl in the 11th over. Within a span of six deliveries, that equation changed to 57 off nine overs.
Brevis was brought into the CSK side as a replacement for the injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh.
That over has given CSK, who are at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, a glimmer of hope. However, even a win might not be good enough to move off the foot of the table.
