Both of Rajasthan Royals (RR) victories this season came when they defended a total. However, when they were asked to chase, they fell short on a couple of occasions. The latest was a massive 58-run loss against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad.
RR spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule believes that they do not want to be a team that can only defend totals but also want to up their chasing game. "We could have maybe given about 20 runs less, but I think they batted well," Bahutule said, assessing RR's loss against GT.
"Sai Sudharsan came out of the powerplay very strongly, and they had better partnerships than what we did, and that's how they got a total, which was big, but I personally feel we could have got closer to that only if we had some partnerships going.
"We'd like to stick in, respect the conditions, and do what the condition requires. We don't want to end up being a team that's only good at defending totals. We also want to win games while chasing, not just while batting first."
RR sit in the bottom half of the IPL 2025 points table with four points. They will look to add to their tally when they take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 13 (Sunday).
